DESCRIPTION
Plan and review your finances with this Weekly or Monthly Budget Worksheet. Choose whether the page covers one week or one month, then record expected and actual income, expenses, and savings in one organized format.
Separate Budgeted and Actual columns allow you to compare what you planned with what really occurred. The summary section at the bottom then provides one clear place to record total income, total expenses, savings, and the difference between the planned and actual amounts.
Choose a Weekly or Monthly Budget
Mark either Week Of or Month Of at the top and add the applicable date or time period.
Use the weekly option for shorter budgeting periods, weekly pay schedules, or closer spending reviews. Use the monthly option when you prefer to see a broader household or personal budget on one page.
Track Budgeted and Actual Income
The Income section provides four rows for recording:
- Date
- Income source or description
- Budgeted amount
- Actual amount received
Use this area for wages, freelance income, benefits, reimbursements, or other income included in the selected week or month.
Compare Planned and Actual Expenses
The Expenses section includes 21 rows for listing costs throughout the budgeting period. Each expense can be marked as fixed or variable and compared using separate Budgeted and Actual columns.
- Fixed or Variable: Mark each expense with an F or V.
- Date: Record the due date, purchase date, or payment date.
- Description: Identify the bill, purchase, subscription, or expense category.
- Budgeted: Enter the amount you expect or plan to spend.
- Actual: Record the amount actually paid or spent.
Use the expense rows for housing, utilities, transportation, groceries, subscriptions, household purchases, personal expenses, and other costs that belong in your budget.
Review Income, Expenses, and Savings
The Totals section provides Budgeted, Actual, and Difference columns for:
- Income: Compare expected income with the amount actually received.
- Expenses: Compare planned spending with actual spending.
- Savings: Record the amount you planned to save and the amount actually remaining or set aside.
The Difference column gives you a clear summary of how the completed budget compared with the original plan.
See Where the Budget Changed
Because budgeted and actual amounts are recorded beside each income and expense entry, you can review individual differences before completing the totals at the bottom.
This can help you identify expenses that were higher or lower than expected, income that changed during the period, and the effect those changes had on savings.
Color-Coded Sections
- Green Income Section: Keeps money received visually separate from spending.
- Light Red Expense Section: Provides a large area for fixed and variable costs.
- Blue Totals Section: Brings the final budgeted, actual, and difference amounts together.
The soft color labels distinguish the main parts of the worksheet while leaving the writing areas clear and easy to use.
